Silvana Madi is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specializing in laser eye surgery, corneal disease treatment, and traditional and lifestyle cataract surgery. She has over 10 years of experience in ophthalmology that includes:
- performing combined cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment (MIGS) to reduce glaucoma eye drop dependency.
- an abundance of experience in glaucoma management, including high-risk and complex cases.
- the most up-to-date practices in corneal transplants to improve quality of vision
- all corneal surgeries including intracorneal rings (INTACs) or PTK to help patients with keratoconus reduce dependence on their glasses
- over 15000 procedures to restore vision, remove dependency on glasses and optimise visual health.

Ms Madi’s fellowship in refractive surgery, cornea and external diseases was the first at IRFO Eye Institute, Italy. Professor Massimo Busin – one of the eminent leaders in Cornea transplantation, supervised her fellowship.
She has gained excellent experience in general ophthalmology. She is proficient in carrying out cataract surgery. Her experience includes complex cases like post-vitrectomy eyes, small pupils, etc. Furthermore, her broad experience across all ophthalmic subspecialties means that she confidently deals with cases as a general ophthalmologist and in Glaucoma and Cornea at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Ms Madi has performed over 40 iStent procedures for Glaucoma patients managing all complex and high-risk Glaucoma cases at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Ms Madi has participated in International conference courses related to new corneal transplantation techniques and has published several journal articles. In addition, she has presented more than 17 well-received papers to international conferences.
She participated in the early development of the ZEISS Visumax technology for SMILE. She has also helped develop other laser surgery techniques under the supervision and mentorship of Prof. Osama Ibrahim. Ms Madi has performed more than 300 SMILE treatments – all with exemplary results.
Silvana completed two Cornea fellowships; at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and training under the mentorship of Professor Massimo Busin, one of the global leading Corneal surgeons. In addition, she completed two years as a fixed-term consultant in advanced corneal surgeries, cataract and external diseases in Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Silvana has a Master of Science, and a PhD in Cornea transplantations, undertaken at Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt, with numerous publications and research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She also holds a Senior lecturer position at Alexandria University.
As an accredited Visumax Zeiss user, she performs a comprehensive range of laser refractive procedures, including SMILE, LASIK and PRK. In addition to the whole spectrum of laser refractive surgery options, Silvana has great expertise and experience in a variety of other refractive procedures, including Lens Replacement Surgery, with a variety of multifocal lens implants. She provides refractive solutions to a wide range of patients, including presbyopic patients.
Silvana has been active in teaching and research throughout her career and has presented at national and international scientific meetings. In addition, as a regional training program director in Ophthalmic Training (OPT) in the east of England, she oversees the training of all allied healthcare professional training in the region.
