LASIK

LASIK is a type of refractive surgery. This kind of surgery uses a laser to treat vision problems caused by refractive errors (like shortsightedness, longsightedness and astigmatism)

TransPRK and PRK are alternative refractive surgeries that act as an ideal further option for people who are not suitable for LASIK. They each treat the same conditions.

SMILE laser eye surgery is an alternative to LASIK surgery for the correction of shortsightedness and astigmatism. In some ways, SMILE eye surgery is similar to LASIK and it may offer advantages over LASIK for some patients. SMILE is an acronym for small incision lenticule extraction.

Also known as ICLs, Phakic intraocular lens (phakic IOL or pIOL) implants are an alternative to LASIK and PRK eye surgery for correcting moderate to severe myopia (shortsightedness). In some cases, phakic IOLs produce better and more predictable vision outcomes than laser refractive surgery.

Refractive lens exchange, also called lens replacement surgery or clear lens extraction, may be a better option than SMILE, LASIK, TransPRK & PRK or ICL surgery for people over 50 with presbyopia, shortsightedness and high hyperopia (longsightedness).

Treatments for keratoconus include corneal cross-linking & Intracorneal rings (INTACs).

A corneal graft operation is a transplant operation that involves the removal of the full thickness of your central cornea (penetrating keratoplasty) and it is replaced with a cornea from a donor.

Dry eye management includes:

  • prescription eye drops or ointments
  • warm compresses on the eyes
  • massaging your eyelids
  • certain eyelid cleaners

Cataracts and glaucoma are two of the most common eye diseases in the world. Many people with cataracts also have glaucoma. If a cataract makes it harder to see clearly, and eye pressure is not as it should be despite medicine or laser treatment, we may suggest combined cataract-glaucoma surgery (also known as MIGS).
